After grueling three years of wait, the oddly handsome sociopath made an amazing comeback with the fourth season of Sherlock Holmes, and we must say, what a wonderful start to the year!
With that being said, there’s plenty to look forward to on the small screen in 2017; pertaining to new seasons of critical favorites, return of established hits, and a handful of promising new offerings. Whatever else you might find lacking in your life this year, your appetite for smashing TV shows is definitely going to be satiated with all-time best shows making a comeback.
Here are our top favorites returning to the small screen in 2017 that should be on your viewing radar.
Game of Thrones, Season 7
Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have made it clear that this is the penultimate season of the series. If that isn’t the worst news ever for the Thrones fans (which is basically every person in the world), the final two seasons are going to be shorter with only 7 episodes each. But expect more drama and more shocks to be packed into each episode as the series draws to a close. After wandering in the badlands season after season, Daenerys is finally sailing towards Westeros with Tyrion, Theon and Yara Greyjoy, Cersei has taken over King’s Landing, the Night King is drawing ever closer from beyond the Wall, Arya and Bran are also making their way to Westeros for a possible Stark family reunion we hope and Jon Snow is about to learn about his parentage; he could very well turn out to be Targaryen. Phewww! So much to look forward to!
Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys on the show recently posted an Instagram video writing that Season 7 is going to be “mind-blowing”. We have absolutely no doubts about that!
The Walking Dead, Season 7 Part 2
The second part of the Season 7 of The Walking Dead is just around the corner. With the first part receiving mixed reviews, unlike the unanimous applause of the previous seasons, a lot of fans are eagerly waiting for their faith in the show to be restored. The closing moments of the eighth episode had a riveting end as Negan’s second visit to Alexandria eventually lead to two more deaths that propelled Rick to take up arms against Negan and the Saviours. With an inevitable war looming on the horizon expect a lot of thrilling action.
Doctor Who, Season 10
After the appetite-building single hour episode of Doctor Who in 2016, 2017 promises a full season, all set to land in April. The tenth season will air whooping 12 episodes, followed by a Christmas special. While this is going to be the last season for Steven Moffat, you are going to see a whole lot of new cast joining the family. The current Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi, the twelfth doctor said in an interview, “I think it’s a very action-packed season. It’s a lot of space exploration, and a lot of excitement and drama. It’s a whole different kind of energy”. Look out for Doctor’s new travelling companion Bill Potts (played by Pearl Mackie) and the return of Nardole (played by the comedian Matt Lucas). You’ll have to wait and see what adventures are in for the wacky doctor and Bill throughout space and time. Let’s hope to keep the TARDIS warm
Star Trek: Discovery
The hugely popular show is set to make a comeback on the small screen after eleven years, and this is going to be the show’s new incarnation with whole set of brand new fleet of characters. Originally scheduled to release in January 2017, the show got delayed for May release. “We will be flexible on a launch date if it’s best for the show. It’s more important to do this right than to do it fast,” CBS said in a statement. The show will run for thirteen episodes. However, only the premier will be aired on television, while rest of the episodes will move to online streaming, with a view to make the series suitable for binge-watchers. The story doesn’t just end here – get ready to witness some unique roles, which will make a crucial part of the series.
The Simpsons, Season 28
With the happy announcement by Fox Television that the Simpson will be renewed for two further seasons after the current Season 28, the pop culture phenomenon broke the record for the longest running scripted TV show of all time— a feat that none of us are really surprised about to be honest. We’re all hoping that the new Season, which is expected to air mid-2017, will surely have another hour-long episode following Season 28’s The Great Phatsby – a parody of The Great Gatsby.
Supergirl, Season 3
After a lukewarm response to the first Season, the superhero show improved by miles in its second coming and it wasn’t a shocker when it was announced that the show has been renewed for a third outing slated to be released end of 2017. The second season is still ongoing with the last few episodes yet to be broadcast which makes it difficult for us to forecast what the next season will really bring, after all, season finales are famous for leaving us with excruciating suspense. However, we can say with confidence that with the storyline really coming into its own in the present season, the next one’s only going to get bigger, better and with fleet of new villains.
