“Everybody’s wishing me a happy birthday
Everybody’s wishing, wishing me well
As a year comes around
When it comes, some people fall
But I’m happy”
To hear the song
The lyrics of the song ‘Happy Birthday’ by Jimi Hendrix is right on feels! This is what we all feel on our birthdays, hence, dedicating his own legendary birthday song on his 76th birthday. November 27th marks what would have been Jimi Hendrix’s 76th birthday. He was 20th century’s most creative and influential musicians who brought the idea of the explosion of the electric guitar. He played a white Fender Stratocaster left-handed, making liberal use of feedback, volume, and vibrato, and wrote songs with trippy lyrics. Though he sold more than 80 million records worldwide, his legacy isn’t something that can be quantified
James Marshall Hendrix was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. Despite a limited mainstream exposure of four years, he is widely considered to have been the greatest electric guitarist in the history of popular music, and one of the most important musicians of the 20th century. Al took notice of Jimmy’s interest in the guitar, recalling, “I used to have Jimmy clean up the bedroom all the time while I was gone, and when I would come home I would find a lot of broom straws around the foot of the bed. I’d say to him, `Well didn’t you sweep up the floor?’ and he’d say, `Oh yeah,’ he did. But I’d find out later that he used to be sitting at the end of the bed there and strumming the broom like he was playing guitar.” Al found an old one-string ukulele, which he gave to Jimmy to play a huge improvement over the broom. His father in the summer of 1958 got him a second-hand acoustic guitar from one of his friends. The first band he joined was Velvetones. The following summer, Al purchased Jimmy his first electric guitar, a Supro Ozark 1560S; Jimi used it when he joined The Rocking Kings.
He met Animals’ bassist Chas Chandler in July 1966. Switching gears from bass player to manager, Chandler’s first task was to change Hendrix’s name to “Jimi”. The Experience’s first single, “Hey Joe“, was quickly followed by the release of a full-length album “Are You Experienced”, a psychedelic musical compilation featuring anthems of a generation. “Are You Experienced” has remained one of the most popular rock albums of all time, featuring tracks like “Purple Haze,” “The Wind Cries Mary,” “Foxey Lady,” “Fire,” and “Are You Experienced?” The final song on the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s final album was “Voodoo Child”. He took America by storm with his shocking but electrical performance at the Monterey Pop festival. His howling rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Woodstock in 1969 became a memorable signpost of the era. He shed the Experience in 1969 and relaunched himself in The Band of Gypsys with a live album recorded on New Year’s Day 1970.
Nine months later, on September 18th, 1970, at the age of 27, he died in his sleep in a London apartment, having choked on his own vomit.
Over the course of a short career, Jimi Hendrix generated a collection of amazing music. Hendrix’s music embraced the influences of blues, ballads, rock, R&B, and jazz a collection of styles that continue to make Hendrix one of the most popular figures in the history of rock music. Happy birthday to the world’s ultimate guitar legend, whose music continues to inspire people throughout the world.
