Almost every 90s kid has heard this song or used it in a farewell video or has this track on their playlist. The name of the song is Good Riddance or Time of your life. Unfortunately, not a lot of people know about the band behind this song. That band is named Green Day, a band that started off in 1986 with a temporary drummer but actually broke out in the music scene in 1991 when they released their first album ever. After that it was just musical brilliance waiting to happen.
Green Day has survived all odds and managed to dole out album after album and still be relevant in the EDM era. From battling with addictions to having their master tapes stolen this band has been resilient all throughout and have managed to stamp their name in the history of punk rock. Recently being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this band shows no signs of slowing down. In fact the front man of Green Day launched a new side project called The Longshot and has been releasing new music daily.
Green Day has always been loved by their fans from early Dookie days but then had a fallout with the following albums, they kept trying to achieve the success they did with Dookie but never managed to live up to it. But in 2005, they made a comeback with a bomber of an album called American Idiot. This album was dubbed as a Rock Opera which tells the story about 3 characters in a political world. This album featured the popular song Boulevard of Broken Dreams and was awarded multiple times and won many accolades including it being made into a Broadway show and now a movie. But did they let their success go to their head? No, they came back with another album in the same style called 21st Century Breakdown which was another Rock Opera. After that they released 3 albums back to back called Uno, Dos and Tre in quick succession and soon after that Revolution Radio in 2016. Phew, that’s a lot for one band. Their lyrical genius, hammy and distorted punk sound along with crazy drum fills give them a sound that is easily recognizable if played on the radio or at any party.
In all honesty we would tell you to listen to all of their songs, but we will give you a short list to tell you how Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool have together brought back punk and have stayed true to their sound yet being a commercial success.
