This December DC universe treated us with a unique story coming straight from the Ocean. It is Aquaman we are talking about. Surprisingly, light-hearted movie from the universe which made us think that its forte is dark stories. For the first time ever the story of Arthur Curry has been brought to life by director James Wann and writer Geoff Johns. Aquaman’s devil-may-care attitude is well established in Justice League but you are definitely going to love the narration of the King of Atlantis.
Jason Momma as Arthur Curry a.k.a Aquaman receives an appeal from Princess Mera of Atlantis to take up his birthright and stop his half-brother from waging war on the surface. If you’re thinking that the premise of this movie is screaming THOR and LOKI’s rivalry from MCU then we are on the same page. The gist of the movie or the larger scheme of the storyline is somewhat a cocktail of Thor (2011) and The Avengers (2012).
The contrast of bright colours and the ocean deeps in a visual treat. You’ll feel like a kid again, sitting in a theatre and experiencing the classic adventure fantasy. The entire ensemble is excellent, to be honest, but there’s one person, in particular, who deserves to be singled out and that’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta. The action scene will not let you catch your breath and keeps on giving you variety on action but with the dialogues that would help in plot development. Aquaman screams comic book and is the most entertaining movie of the DC Extended Universe but is it better than Wonder Woman is a debate for another hour.
In the end, without giving away the movie plot all we would like to say is ‘Aquaman is downright amazing, yo! You ought to watch it!’
