Call of Duty has been a safe bet for Activision for 11 years. Developed by Treyarch, Call of Duty®: Black Ops 4 takes the top-selling franchise of Call of Duty® to new heights. Forgoing a single-player campaign, the fourth installment of the Black Ops series fluids multiplayer combat bringing the Black Ops 4 universe to life in one massive battle royale experience. It finds the perfect middle ground between classic COD and the “jetpack” era, reviving the franchise’s fun in many ways. Delivering the most thrilling grounded combat experience yet with a focus on tactical gameplay and player choice, Call of Duty®: Black Ops 4 delivers three distinct modes: Multiplayer, Zombies, and the all-new battle royale mode Blackout.
For the first time, Multiplayer serves as the center of the game’s narrative, as players uncover a deeper connection to the role of each Specialist and their unique play styles. From assault rifles to snipers, the game manages to include the high-tech gadgets and special abilities. With the return of Pick 10 a-class system along with the new gear, gameplay becomes more customizable than ever, giving players choice over how to power up their Specialists. No more auto-regenerating health is one of the biggest change in the series. So now you have to manually heal yourself through the health stem shots in unlimited with a short cooldown timer. Also, you can even see your teammates’ health bars, so you can give friendlies a reminder to jab themselves.
By far Blackout is the most highlighted part of Black Ops 4. The current rage battle royale mode is COD’s own spin on the mega-popularity of games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite. In Blackout, Black Ops comes to life in one massive battle royale experience, combining Black Ops signature combat and the biggest map in COD history. Blackout is a more straightforward experience, hence, anyone with battle royale experience will immediately understand how to play. Points are earned by killing other players or making it into the round’s top 15 spots. Giving more and better weapons, elements like marking map destinations, accounting for bullet drop, and staying inside the ever-shrinking circle; this mode makes the game a different one but also a brand new at the same time.
The two separate storylines split across three missions and three drastically different maps, Zombies in the Black Ops 4 adds a fun in place of the horror mode of in the Call of Duty: WWII. It delivers the biggest Day 1 Zombies offering ever with three full experiences at launch: IX, Voyage of Despair, and Blood of the Dead available for everyone but the fourth Classified map is available if you purchased the Black Ops pass. IX takes place in a gladiator arena in ancient Rome, “Voyage of Despair” takes place on the doomed Titanic during a heist gone wrong, and Blood of the Dead, is a Black Ops 2 remake that follows the Aether Story, featuring the original four characters from Treyarch’s classic Zombie storyline.
An official announcement trailer for the game was released on March 8, 2018. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was released on October 12, 2018, on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It is the 15th game in the Call of Duty franchise and fifth game in the Black Ops series. The game certainly set a trend this year and is definitely the worth of price of admission.
