Like always we are here to tell you a spoiler-free review of a movie that stole our hearts this weekend. Yes, you guessed it right! We are talking about Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse. There’s no replacing a comic book legend like Peter Parker, but Sony Animation’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse makes a strong case for why more “Spider-People” is a good thing. Our friendly neighbourhood Spiderman is back but this time he is not alone. After a plethora of reboots, sequels, and spin-offs, the producer of ‘The Lego Movie’, Phil Lord and Chris Miller have brought five new Spideys, each hailing from their own parallel universe. There is Peter B Parker (Jake Johnson), divorced and depressed; Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld); a trench-coated Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage); Looney Tunes-esque Spider-Ham/Peter Porker (John Mulaney); the futuristic, anime-styled Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn); and teenage graffiti artist Miles Morales (a very likable Shameik Moore).
The hype, as they say, is real. From the hilarious opening shot to the heart-melting climax, this movie is 2 hour ride of fun and emotions. It is like watching a comic book being brought to life. The pop-art inspired visual, thought balloons, comic book-esque captions, and great sound effects makes it a different but perfect animated movie. Giving a new take on Spiderman, this movie is fresh and original in all the levels and the way it is made the audience must have not seen anything on this scale. The main premise of the movie is that Spider-Man isn’t one particular person; with the power of Spiderman and the right motivation, no matter where they come from or what they look like anyone could do what Spider-Man does. Without wanting to spoil anything, there are some brilliant twists that are unique to this film’s universe. The story of each Spiderman is written so brilliantly that it could carry its own standalone movie, making Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse one of the most fantastic superhero movie.
